Crossing Continents

An evening of refined musical globe-trotting

Strong personal approaches infuse a myriad of heavily flavoured sounds taking listeners on an evening of aural storytelling where music joins all corners of the world. Crossing Continents brings together fine musicians, all Australian by upbringing, with strong connections to other world regions. From Flamenco fire, Klezmer melancholy and Gypsy Jazz to Balkan energy and Celtic nostalgia, this ensemble takes you on a world adventure with rhythm, panache and humour, utilising everything from world sounds to Jazz improvisation to Bartok. Come along for what is sure to be a lively and enjoyable evening of bright musical flair!

In a musical round the world trip, we’ll listen to, learn about and create the basic elements of a variety of music styles. Ever wondered how and why Oriental, Klezmer, Latin American, Balkan or Celtic music sounds the way it does? In this workshop, you’ll experience new worlds of possibilities and sounds for your instrument. You’ll be provided with sheet music, as well as other musical elements and fun activities to assist you on you first steps as an improviser and world music traveller.

In addition, we have Australia’s top exponent of Flamenco Guitar, Damian Wright, in Tamworth for the weekend offering his knowledge and experience acquired through many years in Spain and performing throughout the country.
