Music theory teaches the elements that construct a piece of music, including notation, key signatures, time signatures and chord progressions. If you are studying an instrument, Musicianship or Music Craft classes at the Con will help you to have a clear understanding of how pieces are constructed and help you to learn them faster. Learning to recognise patterns and harmonic landmarks in the piece will assist in memorisation.
Musicianship or Music Craft classes are also an essential part of AMEB exams. In order to receive a certificate for instrumental study from Grade 6 or above, the student must have completed a Musicianship or Music Craft exam.
